To a solution of t-butyl (5-amino-5-oxypentyl)carbamate (1.5 g, 6.94 mmol) in ether (20 ml) was added 1M hydrochloric acid in dioxane (10 ml) and the reaction mixture stirred for 1 hour. The precipitate was filtered and washed with cold ether, to give the desired compound as a white foam (lg, 98% yield). 1H NMR (300 MHz, D6 DMSO) δ 1.50 (s, 2H), 2.04 (s, 2H), 2.46 (s, 2H), 2.69 (app d, 2H), 7.34 (s, 2H), 8.04 (s, 3H).
