Steps:

4.1.2.6 General procedure (F). Preparation of 4-Hydroxy-5-methylthiazole

General procedure: Pyridine (0.005mol) was added to a mixture of thiolactic acid (0.02mol) and nitrile (0.0.2mol) at 23°C under argon. The reaction mixture was then heated at 100°C for 2h. After cooling, the precipitate was collected, washed with absolute ethanol, and recrystallized from methanol to afford the product.
