4 Synthesis of 1,4-bis(5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)benzene(3) (WP30)

Terephthalamidrazone WP29 prepared according to example 3 (1.00 g, 5.203 mmol) is added all at once to a solution of benzyl (2.455 g, 11.67 mmol) in ethanol (100 ml). The mixture is heated at reflux for 15 hours. After returning to ambient temperature, the precipitate obtained is filtered, washed successively with ethanol then with diethyl ether and is dried to yield 2.587 g (92%) of a yellow solid. mp=321° C.; δ_H (300 MHz, DMSO-d, 120° C.) 7.42-7.52 (m; 12H), 7.62 (m; 4H), 7.71 (m; 4H), 8.81 (s; 4H); δ_C (75 MHz, DMSO-d, 120° C.) 129.2 (1), 129.3 (1), 130.2 (1), 130.3 (1), 130.5 (1), 131.4 (1), 136.5 (0), 136.6 (0), 138.4 (0), 156.5 (0), 156.9 (0), 161.3 (0); MS (Nanospray) m/z 1081 (2M+H⁺, 22%), 541 (MH⁺, 41%).
