Thionyl chloride (0.25 ml) was added at 0° C., under nitrogen, to a solution of sodium 6-methoxynaphthalene-2-sulfonate (2 mmol) in dry N,N-dimethylformamide (1 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred for 3 h at 0° C., and then ice-water (20 ml) was added thereto. The solid was filtered off and washed with cold water. The solid was then taken up in dichloromethane (25 ml), dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated in vacuo. Yield: 75%
