The above material (0.54 g, 3.0 mmol) and CBr4 (1.3 g, 3.9 mmol) were dissolved in DCM (15 mL), the mixture was cooled to 0 °C and Ph3P (1.0 g, 3.9 mmol) was added in small portions. The reaction mixture was warmed at RT and stirred for 2 h before the solvent was removed in vacuo. Flash chromatography (EtOAc/hexanes, 1:4) yielded 6-(2- bromoethyl)-2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxine (0.7 g, 95.4%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) d 6.81 (d, J = 8.2 Hz, 1H), 6.72 (d, J = 2.1 Hz, 1H), 6.67 (dd, J = 8.2, 2.1 Hz, 1H), 4.24 (s, 4H), 3.51 (t, J = 7.7 Hz, 2H), 3.05 (t, J = 7.7 Hz, 2H).
