1I.B Synthesis of P2 Moiety 8-chloro-4-hydroxy-2-methylquinoline 2I3

In a pre-heated sand bath (300-350° C.), compound 1i2 (730 mg, 3.0 mmol) in diphenyl ether (8 mL) was heated until the internal temperature reached 220° C. and that temperature was maintained for 7 minutes after which the solution was allowed to cool. Upon cooling, a beige solid crashed out and was filtered and washed with diethyl ether. After drying, the desired quinoline 1i3 was obtained as a beige solid (452 mg, 77%). MS: (M+H)+; 194, HPLC homogeneity=99%.
