Preparation of N-(4-aminophenethyl)acetamide
A 4-(2-aminoethyl)aniline (1.50 g; 11.01 mmol; 1.00 eq.) was added neat p-cresyl acetate (1.65 g, 11.0 mmol, 1.00 eq.) and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 h.
The resulting orange solution was absorbed directly on silica gel and purified by flash chromatography (silica gel, DCM/MeOH 0-5%) to afford N-(4-aminophenethyl)acetamide (1.76 g, 89.7% yield)
LCMS: tR=0.58 min., purity=99.5%; ES+, 179.5 (M+H)+.
1H-NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 1.78 (s, 3H), 2.50 (m, 2H hidden by DMSO signal) 3.14 (m, 2H), 4.83 (s, 2H), 6.49 (d, J=7.5 Hz, 2H), 6.84 (d, J=7.5 Hz, 2H), 7.82 (s, 1H).
