2.4.1. Synthesis of 2-Chloro-4H-1,3,2-benzodioxaphosphorine-4-one-2-oxide (SCP-Cl)

Synthesis of SCP-Cl (Scheme 1) was conducted following a modifiedprocedure from literature [45]. In a dry three-neck flask connected toalkaline wash bottles 150 g (1.09 mol, 1.0 eq.) salicylic acid and 140 mL(1.60 mol, 1.5 eq.) phosphorus trichloride were prepared under nitrogenatmosphere. The suspension was heated to reflux at around 80 C for 5 h.When a clear solution occurred, excess phosphorus trichloride wasdistilled at 85 mbar and 60 C. White crystals (219.78 g, 100% of theory)precipitated from the yellow liquid below room temperature. 1H NMR(CDCl3, 300 MHz, 298 K): δ = 8.22-8.03 (m, 1H), 7.98-7.66 (m, 1H),7.65-7.25 (m, 1H), 7.23-6.86 (m, 1H) ppm. 31P NMR (CDCl3, 122 MHz,298 K): δ = 148.32 (s) ppm.
