General Procedure for the Preparation of Compounds3a-e
General procedure: 1H-Indole-3-carbaldehyde 1 (1.45 g, 0.01 mol, 1 eq), theappropriate benzyl chloride (0.011 mol, 1.1 eq) 2a-e, andanhydrous K2CO3 (2.76 g, 0.02 mol, 2 eq) were added toN,N-dimethylformamide (20 mL). The reaction mixture wasrefluxed for 2 h. The progress of the reaction was monitoredby thin-layer chromatography. After cooling to room temperature,the mixture was poured into ice water and then theprecipitate was collected by filtration and dried. The crudeproduct was purified by recrystallization in ethanol to give3a-e in good yields.
