A mixture of 3-fluorobenzene-l-sulfonyl chloride (5.00 g, 25.7 mmol), 18-crown- 6 (0.170 g, 0.642 mmol) and potassium fluoride (7.46 g, 128 mmol) in acetonitrile (51 mL) was stirred for 4 h. Saturated NaHCO₃ (200 mL) was added and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organics were washed with saturated NaHCO₃ (200 mL) and dried over MgSO₄ and concentrated to yield the title intermediate as a yellow oil that was used without purification in the next step (4.20 g, 92%).
