Synthesis of Benzo[a][1,4] benzothiazino[3,2-c]-phenothiazine derivatives 5a-g
General procedure: A mixture of substituted 2-amino benzenethiol 1a-g(0.025 mol), 2,3-dichloro-1,4-napthoquinone (0.01 mol)and [BMIM]BF4 (5 mL) were taken in two neckedround bottom flask. The flask was flushed with drynitrogen and a nitrogen balloon was fitted to it andanother neck was stoppered. The contents of the flaskwere stirred magnetically at 70±2°C and the reactionwas terminated at the end of the reaction checked, asbefore, by TLC. The organic product, upon extractionwith ethyl acetate (3 × 10 mL),was dried over anhydroussodium sulfate. Removal of solvent, after filtration,under reduced pressure (10 mm of Hg) affordedcompound 5a-g. The characteristics data of compounds5a-g are given below.
