1.6 g of 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (10.4 mmol) was added to a 100 ml one-necked flask, dissolved in 30 ml of anhydrous isopropyl alcohol, 2.0 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid was added, and the mixture was heated under reflux for 5 hours.
