Step 3 - (±)-2-(Aminomethyl)butanoic acid (Intermediate BP) (0696) [00425] To a solution of (±)-ethyl 2-(aminomethyl)butanoate (500 mg, 3.44 mmol) in water (1.00 mL) was added concentrated hydrochloric acid (12 M, 1.00 mL) and the reaction mixture was stirred at 100 °C for 16 hrs. On completion, the reaction mixture was filtrated and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (700 mg, crude) as a black/brown oil used without further purification. LCMS: (ES+) m/z (M+H)+ = 118.0, tR= 0.326.
