366.B Step B. Preparation of 4-fluoro-3-(hydroxymethyl)benzoic acid
A solution of methyl 3-(bromomethyl)-4-fluorobenzoate (0.48 g, 1.9 mmol) and NaOAc (1.57 g, 19.00 mmol) in MeCN (30 mL)/ H2O (1 mL) was heated to reflux for 18 h then concentrated. The residue was dissolved in DCM, washed with water and concentrated. The crude was saponified following the procedure described in Example 1, Step B to yield the title compound (0.27 g, 82%).
