2.5. General procedure for the synthesis of chalcone by Claisen-Schmidt reaction

General procedure: The 9-Acetylanthracene 0.22 g (0.001 mol) and benzaldehyde 0.106g (0.001 mol) were taken in a 50 ml round bottom (RB) flask, 10 ml of 50% ethanol was used as a solvent with 15 mg MgO NPs as a catalyst.The reaction mixture was stirred in an oil bath at 80 °C for 1 hr. The reaction progress was monitor by TLC method. After completing the reaction, reaction mixture was poured into ice-cold water to separate the product and catalyst (Scheme 1).
