A solution of tert-butyl (1 S, 2S)-3-chloro-1- (3, 5-diflurorbenzyl)-2- hydroxypropylcarbamate in ethanol (150 mL) was cooled to 0 °C. A solution of KOH in EtOH (25 mL) was added. The reaction was removed from the ice bath and stirred for 2 h. The reaction was diluted with 300 mL of water and placed into an ice bath. The resulting solid was collected by filtration and washed with cold water (100 mL). Drying overnight gave an off-white solid (6.74g, 22.51 mmol, 90%).
