Preparation of isofraxidin (9)
A solution of 8 (1.0 g, 4.8 mmol) was treated with methyliodide (0.4 mL, 6.4 mmol) in the presence of K2CO3(1.0 g, 7.2 mmol) in acetone (20 mL) at 60 °C for 3 h. After the reactionmixture was poured into aq satd NaCl, the whole was extracted with EtOAc. TheEtOAc extract was washed with aq satd NaCl and dried over MgSO4.Removal of the solvent from the EtOAc extract under reduced pressure gave aresidue, which was purified by column chromatography (SiO2 20 g, n-hexane:EtOAc=2:1) to affordisofraxidin 9 (867 mg, 82%).
