with hydrazine hydrate in water;acetonitrile at 20; for 3 h;Sonication;

Steps:

General Procedure for the preparation of 4-arylsemicarbazides.

General procedure: Hydrazine hydrate(250 mg 5 mmol) was added to a solution of phenyl 2-methoxy-5-methylphenylcarbamate(514 mg; 2 mmol) in acetonitrile (50 ml) with stirring followed by the additionof a few drops of water to make the reaction mixture a clear solution. The reaction mixture was stirred withsonication at room temperature for three hours. The solvent was evaporated to a solidresidue, which was then mixed with ether (10 ml) and hexane added slowly until thesolution became slightly milky. Thismixture was left at room temperature for one hour followed by additional hour at0°C. Insoluble white solid product wasseparated by filtration, washed with hexane and dried on air to give the pureproduct
