To a round-bottom flask containing Pd/C (312 mg, 2.93 mmol) was added EtOAc (5 mL). To this mixture was added a solution of 2,4-dibenzyloxy-6-pentyl-benzoic acid (625 mg, 1.55 mmol) in EtOAc (10 mL). The flask was backfilled with nitrogen and stirred under a hydrogen balloon for 18 h. The mixture was filtered through celite and the filtrate was concentrated to give 2,4-dihydroxy-6-pentyl-benzoic acid (305 mg, 1.36 mmol, 88%).
