UsesAnticonvulsant (neuroprotective).
Biological ActivityNon-competitive NMDA receptor antagonist; blocks ion channel and allosteric modulatory site (IC 50 = 8-68 mM). Anticonvulsant in vivo and metabolizes to a more potent desglycine analog. Weakly blocks voltage-dependent Na + channels (IC 50 = 161 mM).
Biochem/physiol ActionsRemacemide HCl is a low affinity NMDA antagonist with anticonvulsant properties. Remacemide also been shown to block voltage-dependent sodium channels.
