Preparation:

Chemical properties: 

cobalt trioxide, chemical formula Co3O4. Molecular weight 240.80. Black powder or gray cubic crystal. The relative density of 6.07, heating to 900 ~ 950℃ to lose oxygen to produce cobalt oxide. Exposure to air absorbs water, but does not produce hydration. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in nitric acid and release oxygen, soluble in hydrochloric acid and release chlorine, soluble in sulfuric acid. Dissolve in a sodium hydroxide melt or boiling solution to form a blue solution that absorbs a lot of oxygen but does not produce cobalt trioxide. It is hygroscopic. It is easily reduced to cobalt metal by carbon, carbon monoxide or hydrogen. Used for making cobalt metal, cobalt catalyst, enamel, ceramic pigment, semiconductor, grinding wheel and cobalt salt and used as oxidant.
