Pyridine-4-sulfonyl chloride is a chiral, enantiomerically pure compound that can be synthesized by the cyclocondensation of 4-aminopyridine and sulfuryl chloride. The x-ray analysis of the single crystals obtained from this synthesis has revealed the molecular structure of this compound. Pyridine-4-sulfonyl chloride is an analog of pyridine, with a sulfonyl group attached to one of its carbon atoms. This chlorinated compound is also a good nucleophile, which makes it useful as a catalyst for certain reactions.
