Using p-hydroxybenzaldehyde as a starting material, p-hydroxybenzonitrile was first synthesized by reacting it with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and sodium formate in formic acid, with a yield of 88.6%. Then, 3-nitro-4-hydroxybenzonitrile was synthesized by reacting it with concentrated nitric acid in glacial acetic acid, with a yield of 92.9%. The latter was then reacted with iodine and hydrogen peroxide in acidic ethanol solution to synthesize Nitroxinil, with a yield of 93.9%, for a total yield of 77.3%. The structures of the intermediates and the target product were confirmed by elemental analysis, IR, and MS. This method uses readily available starting materials, is simple to operate, and has a high yield. The specific reaction process is as follows:  |
