MCPA methyl ester is a derivative of MCPA which is a herbicide. | [Production Methods]
MCPA methyl is produced by first synthesizing the parent acid MCPA through the usual sequence, chlorination of para-cresol, carboxylation to the phenoxyacetic acid, and purification of the resulting technical grade herbicide. An esterification step converts this acid into the methyl ester by reacting MCPA with methanol in the presence of an acid catalyst, typically under reflux and with water removal to drive the reaction toward completion. The crude ester is then neutralised, washed to remove residual catalyst and unreacted alcohol, and distilled or otherwise refined to achieve the required technical-grade purity. | [Mechanism of action]
Selective, systemic with translocation. Synthetic auxin. | [Pesticide Type]
