2,2-Dimethylglutaric anhydride can be obtained by reacting 2,2-dimethylglutaric acid with a condensing agent. 
2,2-Dimethylglutaric acid (3.00 g, 18.7 mmol) was added to a solution of EDCI (3.95 g, 20.6 mmol) and triethylamine (2.87 mL, 20.6 mmol) in dichloromethane (360 mL), and the reaction mixture was stirred for 18 h at room temperature. The solution was washed with saturated NaHCO3 aqueous solution (2×100 mL) and water (1×100 mL). The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated. The crude product was purified by rapid silica gel chromatography using ethyl acetate and hexane (30:70) as eluent to give a white solid (1.88 g, 71%). | [Uses]
