1,3-dihydroxy-2-naphthoic acid can be used as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
[Synthesis]

It is obtained by reacting ethyl 1,3-dihydroxy-2-naphthoic acid with barium hydroxide solution in dioxane, and then acidifying with sulfuric acid. The yield is 90%.
