(C) Synthesis of 1-thiazol-4-yl-ethanone (4). A mixed solution of compound 3 (2.4 g, 12.4 mmol) with 4 mL of 5% HCl in 40 mL of THF was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was diluted with ether, washed sequentially with saturated NaHCO3 solution, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure to afford 1.44 g (94% yield) of the target product 4, which was in the form of an oil and could be used in the subsequent reaction without further purification. | [References]
