A rapid method has been developed for determining phenolic hydroxyl groups in lignins. The method comprises acetylation, selective aminolysis of the phenolic acetyl groups by pyrrolidine (aminolysis), and determination of the resulting 1-acetylpyrrolidine by gas chromatography[1].
