[Definition] ChEBI: The smallest member of the class of carboxamidines being formic acid with the O and OH groups from the carboxy function replaced by NH and NH2 groups respectively. The parent of the class of formamidines.
[Chemical Properties] Formamidine acaricides, developed in the early 1970s, are produced by the reaction of 2,4-dimethylaniline with N-methylformamide. The industrial product is a colorless crystal with a melting point of 75-76°C. It is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol and benzene. The oral LD50 in mice is 113-118 mg/kg. It is used to control spider mites and tea leaf gall mites on cotton and fruit trees, as well as scabies and bee mites in livestock. It is also effective against cotton aphids. Its hydrochloride can be processed into an aqueous solution.
