Although 1-amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid may be obtained from 2-nitroso-1-naphthol by heating with bisulfite, this is less efficient than the corresponding reaction with 1-nitroso-2-naphthol. The preferred method is reduction of the azo dye derived from aniline and 1-hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulfonic acid with sodium dithionite or hydrazine. |
