The silver nitrite is obtained by recrystallization of the precipitate formed by the reaction of silver nitrate solution with nitrous acid at 70°C. Sodium nitrite reacts with silver nitrate to produce a pale yellow precipitate of silver nitrite and sodium nitrate; this is also the method used in the laboratory to synthesize silver nitrite. |
