Off-white or yellow powder, freely soluble in water, pI 5.1, optimum pH 4.5-5.0. Stability: After six months at 4°C, activity decreases by 10%; after twelve months, activity decreases by 20%. Addition of butanol can increase stability; turbidity does not affect activity. Inhibitors include D-glucuronic acid, D-galacturonic acid, and organic peroxides. The absorption coefficient of a 1% aqueous solution is 17.0 at 280 nm. It rapidly hydrolyzes steroidal glucuronides and other glucuronides, but not α- or β-glucosides. The enzymatic reaction is: bound β-D-glucuronide + H??O═D-glucuronic acid + alcohol. | [Uses]
