Penicillinase is a white powder. It is soluble in water, but the enzyme solution is easily inactivated. The dry form is stable at room temperature, and the lyophilized form is stable for a week at 2-80°C. It acts on the β-lactam ring of penicillin, converting it to sterile, active penicillin ketoate. It takes effect one hour after intramuscular injection, rapidly rendering penicillin ineffective. The effect lasts for at least four days, thus eliminating any penicillin allergy symptoms that have developed. | [Uses]
