Eucalyptus dives oil is obtained by steam distillation of fresh leaves of E. dives
Schauer piperitone-type, grown in Australia and South Africa.
In addition to (?)-piperitone, the oil contains 15–25% α-phellandrene.The oil was previously used as a starting material in the manufacture of
(?)-menthol, but has lost much of its significance. Worldwide production
is still 150 t annually. |
