Description

An α,β-unsaturated fatty acid that has been extracted and purified from fresh water clams. 2-octadecenoic acid, a related compound, has been shown to decrease blood sugar and improve liver function in streptozocin-induced diabetic rats.1 This biochemical and its salts have potential medicinal use for treating diabetes and improving lipid metabolism.
