Description

L-pyroglutamic acid (L-pyroglutamate, 5-Oxoproline, pidolic acid) is a natural nutrient and amino acid derived from glutamic acid. It is a metabolite in the glutathione cycle that is converted to glutamate by 5-oxoprolinase.
L-pyroglutamic acid is used as a building block for pharmaceuticals and asymmetric synthesis. It Is also used as a resolving agent for chiral bases and in an efficient synthesis of quinolizidine and indolizidine alkaloids.
