Description
Leupeptins are produced by actinomycetes and act as calpain, cysteine, and protease inhibitors. Studies show that leupeptin preserves cardiac nitric oxide synthase 3 (NOS3) and has been used to study inner ear hair cells. Motorneuron degeneration studies have revealed that leupeptin helps improve muscle function and motorneurons from cell death after nerve injury.
