| Synthesis | Method B: Synthesis of 3-(chloromethyl)pyridazine. Trichloroisocyanuric acid (148 mg, 0.6 mmol) was added batchwise to a chloroform solution of 3-methylpyridazine (145 μL, 1.6 mmol) under reflux conditions. The reaction mixture was stirred at reflux overnight. After completion of the reaction, the mixture was cooled to room temperature and filtered. The filtrate was diluted with dichloromethane and washed sequentially with 1 M aqueous sodium hydroxide and saturated saline. The organic phase was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 3-(chloromethyl)pyridazine hydrochloride (205 mg, 80% yield).
