It keeps the oil and water molecules together to maintain a product’s integrity and has no effect on the skin. Arlacel is a trade name for a glyceryl stearate and Peg 100 stearate mixture, sometimes also listed as a combination of glyceryl monostearate and Poe stearate. | | General Description | Clear yellow to brown liquid. | | Air & Water Reactions | Autooxidizes on storage in the presence of light and air, with the formation of free acidity and labile peroxides. Readily hydrolyzed in the presence of ultraviolet light and air and when refluxed with sodium hydroxide. Also readily hydrolyzed by pancreatic lipase. . Water soluble. | | Reactivity Profile | An alcohol and ester. Flammable and/or toxic gases are generated by the combination of alcohols with alkali metals, nitrides, and strong reducing agents. They react with oxoacids and carboxylic acids to form esters plus water. Oxidizing agents convert them to aldehydes or ketones. Alcohols exhibit both weak acid and weak base behavior.
