The hydrolysis reaction equation of thioacetamide in acidic and basic solutions is as follows: In acidic solution: CH3CSNH2+2H2O----(NH4+)+CH3COO-+H2S in alkaline solution: CH3CSNH2+2OH-----NH3+CH3COO-+HS- due to the hydrolysis of H2S or HS- in acidic or alkaline solutions, it is often used in analytical chemistry to replace toxic and odorous H2S as a group reagent or precipitation reagent for metal cations. The obtained precipitation has good properties and is easy to be separated. In addition, it can also be used as a bismuth determination reagent. Preparation method: Acetamide is heated with aluminum sulfide, acetonitrile reacts with hydrogen sulfide, or acetamide reacts with K3PS4.

Chemical properties: 

Colorless or white crystal. Melting point 113-114℃, solubility in water at 25℃ 16.3g/100ml, ethanol 26.4g/100ml. Very slightly soluble in benzene and ether.
