Chemical properties: 

2, 4-dichlorophenone is white crystal, m.p.33 ~ 34℃, b.p.128 ~ 131℃/2.4kpa, n20D 1.5635, insoluble in water, soluble in benzene, toluene, alcohol and other organic solvents.

Uses: 

2, 4-dichlorophenone is the raw material for the preparation of ω-bromo-2, 4-dichlorophenone or ω-2, 4-trichlorophenone, the latter two are the intermediates for the preparation of bactericides such as apromazole, propiconazole, ethyclozole, and also the intermediates of the insecticide fenazol and the herbicide wild yanquat.

Production method: 

The preparation method is to add M dichlorobenene into the reaction bottle, temperature rise to 50℃, stir add an appropriate amount of anhydrous aluminum trichloride, maintain the temperature 50℃, add acetyl chloride drops, gradually heat up to 100℃ after dripping, and stir at this temperature for 8h, after the reaction is finished, add dichloromethane into the reaction liquid and pour it into water, place it for cooling, and separate the oil layer. The water layer was extracted with dichloromethane, incorporated into the organic layer, washed with water, dried, steamed to remove the solvent and distilled under vacuum, collected 160 ~ 180℃/0.015MPa fractions, and obtained white crystallization into 2, 4-dichlorophenone.
