p-Methoxybenzoic acid, also known as p-anisic acid, 4-anisic acid, or anisic acid, is a white crystalline powder at room temperature. It is soluble in ethanol, ether, and chloroform, slightly soluble in hot water, and poorly soluble in cold water. As a pharmaceutical intermediate, it is used in the synthesis of 3-amino-4-methoxybenzoic acid and the production of p-methoxybenzoyl chloride, among others. It also serves as a fine chemical raw material for the production of fragrances, cosmetics, and participation in various organic syntheses.
