Preparation: this chemical can be prepared by ethanol and trifluoro-methanesulfonic acid anhydride. This reaction will need reagent K₂CO₃ and solvent CH₂Cl₂. The reaction time is 6 hours with reaction temperature of -20 °C.

Uses of Ethyl trifluoromethanesulfonate: it can be used to produce 3-Ethoxy-1H-isoindolium-trifluormethansulfonat at ambient temperature. It will need solvent CH₂Cl₂ with reaction time of 22 hours. The yield is about 91%.
