Rufinamide, which is structurally unrelated to marketed epilepsy drugs, exerts its antispasmodic effects by limiting the firing of neuronal sodium-dependent active potentials. Rufinamide has a wide therapeutic window and may still respond to lufinamide in patients with previously tolerated local or recurrent epilepsy.
