| Description | SMA-12b is an analog of the immunomodulatory parasite product ES-62 that has immunomodulatory activity, can modify the expression of many inflammatory response genes, increase the expression of many genes related to antioxidant responses, and can be used in the study of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other autoimmune diseases. |
| In vivo | Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) was induced in male DBA/1 mice (8–10 weeks old) by intradermal immunization with bovine type II collagen in complete Freund's adjuvant and mice were treated with purified endotoxin-free SMA-12b (1 μg/dose) or PBS subcutaneously on days −2, 0 and 21 and scored for development of arthritis as previously described. SMA-12b could also significantly reduce IL-12p40 secretion, it was not as effective with respect to IL-6. [1] |
