Vincristine, the trade name "Vicostine", "ankopin" (Oncovin), also known as vincristine, neovincristine, medically referred to as VCR, is a kind of alkaloid extracted from the spring flower plant Vinca in the phlox family. It is a mitotic inhibitor and is widely used in chemotherapy to treat a variety of cancers, including acute lymphoblastic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and small cell lung cancer. Vincristine sulfate is its sulfate form.

Pharmacological action

VCR is a cell cycle-specific anti-tumor drug of Vinca alkaloids in the oleandaceae family. The anti-tumor target is microtubule, which mainly inhibits the polymerization of microtubulin and affects the formation of spindle microtubules, thus stopping mitosis in the middle stage.

Clinical application

Like other vinca alkaloids, VCR has been shown to be effective in the treatment of many lymphatic malignancies, including aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphoma and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. It is mainly used in the treatment of acute leukemia, malignant lymphoma, neuroblastoma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other diseases.
