5-Amino-1MQ is an enzyme that may be overexpressed during skeletal muscle aging and belongs to a class of small-molecule products. Research suggests that 5-Amino-1MQ may be associated with damage to the NAD+ pathway, dysregulation of sirtuin1 activity, and changes in muscle stem cell function. By modulating these processes, 5-Amino-1MQ may have potential effects on supporting muscle health and function. 5-Amino-1MQ promotes the differentiation of myoblasts in vitro and enhances the fusion and regeneration of muscle stem cells in aged mice. Additionally, 5-Amino-1MQ serves as a potent inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), selectively binding to residues at the NNMT substrate binding site.
