A straight chain, hydrophilic, colloidal polyuronic acidAlginic acid is used as a precursor for the preparation of sodium alginate, potassium alginate and calcium alginate, which finds application in various industries such as food, textile printing and pharmaceuticals. It acts as an additive in dehydrated products such as slimming aids. It is also used in the production of paper and textiles. It is actively involved in waterproofing, fireproofing fabrics. It is utilized as a thickening agent in drinks, ice cream and cosmetics. It plays an important role as a raw material for the synthesis of propylene glycol alginate and polysaccharide sulfate.
