(165a) 1-(6-Bromopyridin-3-yl)ethanol Water (4 mL) and sodium borohydride (0.23 g, 6.0 mmol) were added to an ethanol solution (10 mL) of 3-acetyl-6-bromopyridine (0.60 g, 3.0 mmol). The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 min. The reaction solution was concentrated under reduced pressure, and then water was added thereto. After extraction with ethyl acetate, the organic layer was washed with water and brine, and then dried with anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to obtain a crude product 0.59 g (yield: 97%) of the title compound as a light yellow oily material. 1H-NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ ppm: 8.35 (1H, d, J = 2.4 Hz), 7.61 (1H, dd, J = 2.4, 7.8 Hz), 7.47 (1H, d, J = 7.8 Hz), 4.94 (1H, m), 2.04 (1H, s), 1.51 (3H, d, J = 6.3 Hz).
