Steps:
1.2 Step 2: 1-Bromo-4-(iert-butyl)-2-methoxybenzene
To a solution of 2-bromo-5-(fe/f-butyl)phenol (1 g, 4.36 mmol) in THF (5 ml_) was added t-BuOK (494.66 mg, 4.41 mmol) followed by Mel (631 .90 mg, 4.45 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 70 °C for 3 hrs. The mixture was poured into water (100 ml_) and extracted with EA (100 ml_ * 2). The combined organic layers were washed with brine (100 ml_), dried over Na2S04, filtered and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified by column chromatography (S1O2, Petroleum ether/Ethyl acetate=1/0 to 10/1) to give the title compound (750 mg, 3.08 mmol, 70.67% yield) as a white solid.1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-de) d = 7.45 (d, J = 8.4 Hz, 1 H), 7.07 - 7.04 (m, 1 H), 6.91-6.88 (m, 1 H), 3.85 (s, 3H), 1.28 (s, 9H) ppm
